One of my favorite Amarone: Amarone de la Valpolicella mazzi 2005 Amarone Classico DOC by Roberto Mazzi & Figli. Bright wine with deep intensity of ruby color with garnet hues and a narrow rim (the thick tears stain the glass). Clean on the nose with medium+ intensity of developing aromas of ripe blueberry, black cherry, black pepper, tomato, eucalyptus, vanilla, caramel toast, raisin and medicinal flavors. Dry on the palate with medium+ acidity, high level of coarse-grained tannins, high alcohol, full-bodied with pronounced intensity flavors like blueberry, black cherry, black pepper, tomato, carnation, eucalyptus, vanilla, caramel toast, raisin and medicinal flavors. The fresh fruit is well integrated with the oak and the alcohol balances the coarse-grained tannins. The finish is long. The quality is outstanding for a balanced, yet complex, rich and concentrated wine, great ambassador of Amarone wines! This wine is good to drink now but can be kept to age! Try it out with heavy sauces and meat dishes!
